Biocides
ECHA can arrange the supply of biocides if required and provide advice on appropriate doses and methods of application. All advice offered is impartial and, to the best of our ability, is devised to be the most appropriate to meet the technical and economic requirements of our clients.
The selection of suitable biocides and their application needs careful consideration, particularly with regards to:
- Health and Safety
- Environmental & Disposal Issues
- Efficacy against the microbial contaminants present
- Speed of action
- Compatibility with the material to be treated
- Relevant approvals
- Solubility (particularly for fuels where the relative solubilities in fuel and water must be considered)
- Mixing and Application method
In many cases we recommend and supply the biocide GrotaMar71 from Schülke & Mayr for use in fuels and oils. In our opinion it best meets the requirements for decontamination of most fuel and oil systems and we have many years experience of the successful application of this biocide. Alternative biocides may be used where fuel / oil solubility is not required.
Biocides may not always be the best method of treating a fuel oil or system and if in our opinion an alternative strategy will be as or more effective we will let you know. Often biocides will need to be used in conjunction with system cleaning. It should always be remembered that biocides will not necessarily return a severely contaminated fuel or oil to a fit for use condition.
